A Bad Month
Hello friends.
I’m very sorry for completely abandoning everyone for an entire month. However, as you will see, I had good reason for not being around.
At the end of April and beginning of May I had finals and projects that took up a lot of my time. After everything for junior year was finished, I had an orientation with Dow AgroSciences to become more acquainted with the facility and my co-workers. It was after this orientation that most of my troubles started.
I was on my way back to Purdue to enjoy a week of no classes, no work and hanging out with friends. Unfortunately, I didn’t get very far. I was in a fairly bad wreck before I even got back to I-65. Before you ask, there wasn’t another car involved. (Luckily) I found out the hard way that lots of rain + a tight curve + not slowing down enough = a totaled car and a broken ankle. I spent the weekend hobbling around on crutches and unable to do much.
Interesting little tidbits about myself: this was my first major wreck, first broken bone and first ride in an ambulance. (Which was actually pretty pleasant, I had an extremely cute EMT). I think this goes to show that there really always is some form of a bright side.
As it turns out, it’s extremely hard to go from being a completely independent person to being completely dependent person. However, I eventually was given a walking cast and was able to get out and around. (And also allowed to drive again).
At first I was worried that this unfortunate incident would delay my internship, but as it turns out I was going to be able to start on May 19. I was so excited. I was finally going to start making money and begin the journey towards independence again….not.
The night before I’m supposed to start the internship, I get a sore throat. Ok, no big deal, I get sore throats all the time….wrong. This wasn’t just a sore throat, it turned out to be the mother of all sore throats. After going to the doctor a few times, I finally had to go to the ER and get an IV. I couldn’t even swallow water because my tonsils were so swollen.
After the trip to the ER, I finally started feeling somewhat better. However, I was on an insane amount of pain medication. I’m sure most people would enjoy being on the good stuff; I, however, was not one of them. My throat felt much better, but now I couldn’t stop throwing up. Yay. Just what I wanted. After a couple days of not moving and non-stop sleeping, I finally felt like a human again.
The following Wednesday I was finally able to start my internship. That, however, is a future blog.
I know it seems like a complaint blog, however, I just wanted to tell you all about my unique May. It might not have been pleasant, but you can bet I won’t be forgetting it soon.

Well, my long lost friend, it sounds as though you have indeed had a rough month. I certainly empathize with you. I hope your internship is going well.
